Two nights ago I read a Thai magazine, Brandage, featuring several articles on the emerging Thailand shopping street, a straight line under the SkyTrain from the Emporium in Sukhumvit Road through Kasorn Plaza, Amarin Plaza, Central World Trade Center, onward to Siam Paragon (about to be openned in few months ahead), Siam Center, Siam Discovery Center, MBK Center, Siam Square on Rama I Road. The combined shopping areas, totalling about 2 million square meters, would soon create a world's shopping paradise for international shoppers and potentially earn billions of dollars in income for the country.
However, I think if those would drain a lot of money from Thai shoppers, or to convert more of the Thai younger generation into an even more materialistic, expensive brand-name only shoppers, that would be devastating for future Thailand in the long run.
Personally, I do not use brand name items and think those have very low performance/price ratio. They are not noteworthy for me.
