Our trip to Lumbini, Nepal (2)
At the Lumbini park, we visited the shell structure of the archeological site where a footprint was found, presumably to mark the exact birth place of Lord Buddha. Afterward to went to chant and meditate for a while before going to walk around the Ashoka pillar 3 times and wrap a gold laced yellow rope around it. (I had a nagged feeling about the expected quick disappearance of such a nice piece of cloth soon after it was put up there (and at other places as well) by us. Ok, it had been donated, so whoever took them down later we hope they 'd use it for a good cause.) There is a brass plate showing the translation of the inscription on the pillar. I think anyone can read its English text from this small picture.
